Community Alert: Major Housing Proposals on Wetherby’s Boundary
Several major housing developments have been proposed just inside the North Yorkshire Council area, directly on Wetherby’s boundary:
• 210 homes at Hallam/Stockeld Park
• Up to 593 homes off Hudson Way (proposed by Gladman)
• Around 100 homes on Sicklinghall Road (proposed by Miller Homes)
The Impact on Our Town
While these developments are being promoted as convenient extensions to Wetherby, they will contribute nothing to Leeds City Council or Wetherby Town Council rates. Yet, future residents will rely entirely on Wetherby’s infrastructure.
The cumulative impact of these proposals means an estimated:
• 4,000+ additional residents
• 2,000+ extra cars on our already congested roads
This will put an unprecedented strain on Wetherby’s schools, health services, and essential facilities. Furthermore, with North Yorkshire Council issuing a new Call for Sites, even more boundary proposals are likely to follow. This represents a serious, rapidly growing challenge for our community.
